"WIN ALL FOUR" - A Four-Year Guide and Workbook for High School Athletes Aiming for College. (formerly Win the 4th, Win the Game)
How can this book help a high school athlete dreaming of college?
Dreams of College Athletics
One of the most memorable days for any high school athlete is when the first recruiting letter comes in the mail. The envelope has an artistic, colorful school logo. The letterhead the same, with the words asking about your interest of playing at the college level. All the hours and years of practice and performance have paid off. This is the start of the dream; you have had since the days of your youth, coming true.
Next, the evaluation. Each recruiter has two items in their hands for every evaluation. In one hand is the game tape and the other is the student’s high school transcript. If the transcript doesn’t qualify, there isn’t a reason for the coach to watch the tape, and the dream of college athletics for the student is dead. Student-athletes and parent need to understand that athletic ability and performance CAN NOT compensate for poor academics. The high school transcript is the athletes “RESUME” and every day in high school will either improve or lessen an athletes opportunity to college athletics.
Win All Four is the guide and workbook an athlete can use to excel in this club. The 740 Club is the culmination of the athlete’s days in high school, the GPA, class rank, ACT and SAT exam score, absences and tardies. Numbers that will determine if each athletes will have an opportunity to play at a particular school. The better the numbers, the more opportunities an athlete will have to fulfill the dream of playing college athletics.
All high school athletes should be nurtured to dream of college athletics. Living these dreams is what makes high school athletics such a special experience. Motivating kids to excell in the classroom is a crisis throughout our country. Dreaming and in turn preparing to become a college athlete is a motivational tool parents, administrators, counselor, teachers and coaches need to sell to our athletes. We should have every athlete follow the academic standards of the NCAA Clearinghouse throughout their four years in high school. By the time they are seniors, athletic ability and genetics will determine which athletes have a college playing career and which don't but in the end they all will have the academic success needed to continue their education.
The most important "thing" every student has at the end of high school is their TRANSCRIPT. The TRANSCRIPT is ones RESUME to the next step in ones life. Today studies sugget individuals are not starting their first professional job until the age of about 25 years old. What is gong to fill the time between the end of high school and the age of 25? Academic succes is critical for life success and this why I believe we need to use the dream of becoming a college athlete as a motivational tool for all the athletes beginning in their freshman year. The TRANSCRIPT is the academic summary of the four years in high school. It is the "resume" and it takes four years to build.

EDUCATE PARENTS
It is important for the parents to understand recruiting is a complicated, detailed and drawn out process. At times, it is also very confusing. There are many misconceptions and misunderstanding which have a negative impact on many recruits around our country. The “Win the 4th, Win the Game” presentation will assist the head coaches with educating the parents on how athletes get recruited. We all know coaches don't get athletes’ scholarships, athletes do!

About the Presenter
Mike Kostoff has coached football at the high school and college level for the past 17 years. His college experience includes coaching jobs at Adrian College and The University of Findlay. His recruiting experience has given him a solid understanding of the recruiting process especially at the DII and DIII levels. He has encountered a number of gifted and talent athletes lost, confused and unaware of the recruiting process. These athletes couldn’t get the opportunity to become a college athlete because they failed to understand recruiting is a four year process.

Educationally, Mike graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BS in psychology in 1992. After a few years as a Drug Counselor and Prevention Specialist, he returned to Eastern Michigan to pursue his teaching certificate. He spent six years as a high school teacher where he also coached basketball and track. In 2003, he accepted a position at The University of Findlay where he also completed his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
“Why Create This Workbook”
So many athletes around our country spend countless hours working the fundamentals and techniques of their sport in hopes of becoming a college athlete. Most have been dreaming of this since they began playing in the youth leagues. The purpose of this presentation and book is to give every high school athlete the understanding and a plan to become a college student-athlete. My hope is for the athletes to use the information to increase their chances of making their dreams a reality.
